Summary[]

When Brother outgrows his old bike, he gets a new one and Sister gets his old one as a hand-me-down. Sister becomes jealous of Brother's new bike. That night in bed, Sister meets a green monster who looks like her.

Plot[]

As Mama and Papa are out on the front steps, Sister runs out the front door cheering because her best friend Lizzy was coming for a visit. Just then, Mr. Bruin pulls up in his car, and as he gets out to talk with Mama and Papa, the car slowly starts rolling down the hill, to which Mr. Bruin chases after it. Brother starts to zoom around the front yard on his bike, and flies into Papa's arms when it suddenly stops. He tells his son the seat needs to be raised despite him doing it twice before.

Papa learns that Brother has outgrown his current bike, and Mama offers to get him a new bike while she has to pick up some things. In excitement, Brother runs to get in the family car. Sister and Lizzy overhear them, and they are excited when they learn that Brother's bike is a hand-me-down to Sister, and Sister's bike will be a hand-me-down to Lizzy. Before Sister rode her new bike, Papa took it inside the workshop to make the seat and handlebars "Sister-sized." While Papa works on the bike after finding his wrench, Sister and Lizzy both become bored after a while. Suddenly, Papa wheels Sister's fixed bike out of his workshop just as Mama arrives home with Brother's new bike.

Immediately after seeing Brother's new bike, Sister becomes jealous and asks if she could ride it. Mama takes her inside the house to make some lemonade. Inside, Mama explains to Sister that she was overtaken by the green-eyed monster, but she ignores her and tells her about how beautiful Brother's new bike is. Outside, Lizzy tries to make Sister better by telling her that she likes Sister's bike as much as she likes Brother's, and in five or six years, she'll get Brother's bike, to which Sister looks at her angrily.

Mr. Bruin pulls up in front of the Bear family's house to pick up his daughter. Papa notes Mr. Bruin's car and offers to fix it for him, but Mr. Bruin declines, telling Papa he doesn't know where to start. Papa jokingly suggests that Mr. Bruin should get a new car, but takes back what he said when Mama looks at him with her arms folded. After Mr. Bruin drives off, Mama and Papa overhear Brother and Sister fighting over whose turn it is to ride the bike. Papa walks to the cubs and tells Sister that the bike is too big for her to ride. Frustrated, Sister storms back inside the treehouse and slams the door shut.

That night, Sister has a dream where she meets the green-eyed monster, who appears as a manifestation of herself. The green-eyed monster takes Sister outside to Brother's bike and has her prove she can ride it. Sister wakes up in fright and goes to prove that she is big enough to ride Brother's new bike despite being small for it. At breakfast, Mama has Brother call Sister to the kitchen, but instead goes outside to find Sister trying to ride Brother's bike. He and Papa see her race past the treehouse and give chase. While Papa runs to catch Sister, Brother catches up to Sister by riding his old bike. He instructs her to gently activate the bike's handbrake.

With the bike stopped, Sister apologizes after realizing that wanting something isn't always good for her. However both Mama and Papa only care that Sister is unharmed and safe. Brother then gets an idea for Sister's bike and they both decorate it. Brother jokingly admits that Sister's bike makes him jealous, and Sister tells him to keep the green-eyed monster away. Suddenly, Mr. Bruin pulls toward the Bear family treehouse in a brand-new car. Papa, who gave Mr. Bruin advice, gets jealous and Sister reminds him about the green-eyed monster. Instead of getting angry, Papa congratulates Mr. Bruin on the new car and decides to wash up the family car.

Characters[]

Differences From the Book[]

  • The book opened with Brother receiving gifts from his family and friends at his birthday party. The episode begins with the Bear family out on their lawn and Brother riding his bike.
  • The Green-Eyed Monster, while resembling Sister Bear, had horns in the original book. Here, she isn't presented with horns on top of her head.

Quotes[]

(PAPA Q. BEAR):Personally, I'd start with a new car.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible that nothing was wrong with Biff's car. It most likely rolled away because he forgot to put the gear on park.
