Berenstain Bears Wiki

Papa Bear is one of the main characters of the Berenstain Bears series. He is the husband of Mama Bear and the father of Brother, Sister, and Honey.

In the books, Papa wears a long-sleeved yellow shirt with diagonal red and green lines and a pair of long blue overalls. When he goes out, he wears a tall brown bucket hat with a red stripe.

In the animated series, the stripes on Papa's shirt are gone, making it easier for the animators to move him.

Papa is a hardworking carpenter who serves as the father figure to his cubs Brother and Sister Bear. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, eating, drinking, and spending time in the woods. His most favorite food is honey.

Although Papa tends to be clumsy, he is actually well-meaning. Like Mama, he is a disciplinarian, but despite this, he tends to overreact when pushed past his limit, leaving Mama to pick up the scraps for him or assuming that cubs will learn as they grow.

Due to his behavior at times, he tends to think that the rules don't apply to him, and as a result, he ends up having to set an example for the cubs or doing chores as punishment.

Papa Bear can sing, and is shown doing so in some books and the 1985 cartoon. His best notable song is the Wild Wild Honey Song, a song about Papa getting his plan to steal Queen Nectar's honey. He also sing two variations of the same melody, the White Water Song is sung when Papa carrying the three cubs to the river and the Big Money Song is sung when Papa discovers something in the supermarket about money.
