“This way to Bear Country. You'll know when you're there. As soon as you enter, you'll feel like a bear.”
Opening quote

The Berenstain Bears' New Baby is a book in The Berenstain Bears series. It was written by Stan and Jan Berenstain and was published on June 19, 1974.

This book is notable for introducing Sister Bear, who was unnamed at the time, to The Berenstain Bears series. She was the last addition to the family until Honey Bear's birth in the book The Berenstain Bears and Baby Makes Five.

Synopsis[]

Just after the Bear family moves into their new treehouse, Mama, Papa, and Small Bear make room for the new baby.

Plot[]

Small Bear has fun doing things with Mama and Papa as he was growing up in their new treehouse. One morning, he wakes up with aches and pains in his legs and knees, with Papa telling him that he has outgrown his bed. Papa and Small Bear then went into the nearby woods to chop down trees and craft Small Bear a new bed frame, with Papa adding that the family's having a new baby as Small Bear asks about his old bed.

Back at the treehouse, Small Bear notices that the old bed in his room is gone, and Mama calls both him and Papa into the next room over. There, they see Mama tucking a baby girl cub in. Small Bear goes over to introduce himself, and the baby punches his nose. In bed that night, Small Bear thinks about how fun it'll be for him to be a big brother. He wakes up the next morning with no aches or pains, but a tender nose.
