“When bears for sports let schoolwork slide, the report card shows parents what students may hide.”
—Opening quote for The Berenstain Bears' Report Card Trouble
The Berenstain Bears' Report Card Trouble is a book published in 2002.
It's Report Card day at Bear Country School, and Brother sees his report card on his desk. He nervously picks it up and looks at his grades, which reveals that he has failed in all of his school academics except P.E.. After Brother and Sister got home for the day, Papa reads Brother's report card and was extremely furious with his grades. He then proceeds to yell at Brother, in addition to grounding him until his grades improve. Brother then heads to his room and later goes to work on his studies. However, Papa quickly realizes that due to family rules, the rest of the family are grounded as well, since it would be unfair for them to do things that Brother can't do.
At school the next day, word about Brother's punishment quickly spread around the school, with Coach Grizzmeyer being disappointed the most because of Brother being his soccer team's best goalie. Later after school, Sister becomes bored with Brother being grounded, and talks about it with Mama. Realizing that it wasn't entirely Brother's fault that he slumped in academics, Mama talks to Papa and suggests helping Brother in his work. The rest of the family then pitches in with helping Brother get better grades. The next day, Brother comes home with better grades and the family is proud of the hard work they put in. Papa decides that Brother has been punished enough and lifts the grounding, but makes Brother promise that he will pull his grades up and won't fall behind again.
- Mama is seen wearing a purple vest on the cover. However, in the book, she isn't seen wearing it.
