- This article is about the 2002 animated adaptation of The Berenstain Bears. For information about the 1985 adaption of the same name, see The Berenstain Bears (1985 TV series).
The Berenstain Bears is a children's animated television comedy series based on Stan and Jan Berenstain's book series of the same name. Similarly to the 1985 adaptation, The Berenstain Bears follows the lives of four anthropomorphic bears that learn a moral or safety lesson during the course of each episode.
The series premiered on Treehouse TV on September 9, 2002 and ended on September 12, 2003. It later aired on PBS Kids starting on January 6, 2003 and ended on December 6, 2004. Only 40 episodes were produced throughout the show's run. Reruns of the series aired on PBS Kids Sprout until 2017, where it was rebranded as Universal Kids and after Sprout's rights to air the show had expired.
The Berenstain Bears received a Gemini and Young Artist Award nomination in 2004.
Synopsis[]
The Berenstain Bears takes place in a world populated with only anthropomorphic bears and centers around the lives of the Bear family as they live out their lives in the fictional community of Bear Country. The family consists of Mama Bear, Papa Q. Bear, Brother Bear, and Sister Bear.
Several episodes of the show were based on the books and share the same morals with them from which the plots were derived from. However, later episodes of The Berenstain Bears featured original storylines that, similarly to the earlier episodes, each have their own moral. The same environments and lessons taught by the Berenstain Bears picture books are presented much accurately in the show and focuses more on the Bear family's daily life.
