The Berenstain Bears Go to Camp is the second segment of the thirteenth and final episode in season 1 of The Berenstain Bears. It first aired on September 19, 2003 and is based on the book of the same name.
Summary[]
Just a week after school lets out for summer break, Mama has Brother and Sister go to day camp, which they enjoy. Before the summer camp comes to an end, Grizzly Ted, the cubs' scoutmaster, announces that he and the cubs will be sleeping on Skull Rock on the last day of camp. Sister is scared because she never slept outside before and asks her best friend Lizzy to help her out.
Plot[]
It is summer break, and Brother and Sister sit on the front steps of their treehouse bored. Mama comes outside to talk to the cubs. Brother tells her that he and Sister aren't bored they just can't think of anything to do. Mama then shows Brother a brochure about Grizzly Ted's Day Camp. After reading over it, the idea of going to camp interests the cubs and they agree to go. Papa jokingly comes out and tells the cubs they could always spend the summer helping him out in his workshop, prompting Sister to jump up from the stairs. After Brother asks if they could really go, Mama tells the cubs that Grizzly Ted has a special place for each of them.
At Grizzly Ted's Day Camp, Brother, Sister, and their friends have the time of their lives as they swim in a nearby lake. Grizzly Ted then announces it's time for lunch, and the cubs all race out of the lake. Some time later, the cubs do various things at Day Camp such as bird-watching, canoeing, log rolling, and making pots out of clay. Brother and Sister return home one day to show Papa a new game that they made, where they place a ring around the stick they're holding. Papa tries, but the ring lands on his nose. In the cubs' bedroom, Brother lines several rocks he found on his sheet while Sister puts some quills in a jar she made.
Back at Day Camp, the cubs are playing a game of tug-of-war. When Brother, Sister, and Lizzy win, the losing cubs splatter mud on them. Brother spikes the ball during a game of volleyball, and Lizzy lands a horseshoe between a pole. The montage then closes out with Brother, Sister, Lizzy, and Cousin Fred watching as the three baby robins in the nest fly away.
Later, Grizzly Ted leads the cubs on a hike to Skull Rock, where he announces that the end of camp is coming soon and in tradition, he and the cubs will be sleeping on top of it the following Friday night. The cubs, except for Sister, are delighted. Later, the cubs are playing a game of soccer. Brother calls Sister to stop the soccer ball, but she anxiously stands at her team's goal as it rolls past her. He goes over to Sister to get her attention, but Sister tells him that she's worried about the sleepout. Lizzy comes over and takes Sister with her to the field while Brother stays at the goal to play goalie.
At one of the cabins, the cubs are excitedly talking about the foods that Grizzly Ted is preparing at the cookout. Lizzy catches on to Sister being reluctant to join the sleepout, drawing the attention of the other cubs. While the girls get paper towels, Sister tells Lizzy that she doesn't want to go on the sleepout because she's scared and never slept outside before. To curb Sister's anxiety, Lizzy decides to take her on a trial sleepout in the Bear family's backyard. There, the girls get ready to sleep for the night, and Sister shines her flashlight on three raccoons rummaging in a trash can. They then get in their sleeping bags and go to sleep.
The next morning, Lizzy wakes up and notices that Sister had slept outside the entire night. Sister wakes up feeling good and thinks that the sleepout they are having that night will be fun. Papa calls from the kitchen window and tells the girls that their pancakes are getting cold and jokingly tells them that he'll eat the pancakes, to which Sister and Lizzy race inside the treehouse for breakfast. At Skull Rock that night, Grizzly Ted tells the cubs a story about the Great Bear and a salmon as they roast marshmallows around a campfire. When it goes out, the cubs all pile into their sleeping bags and go to sleep for the night while Grizzly Ted stays up playing a harmonica. Sister tells Lizzy she's glad she's talked to her about her sleepout anxiety. Lizzy then challenges Sister to see who can find a shooting star. While doing so, Sister falls asleep and Lizzy joins her shortly after.
