The board game in action
The Berenstain Bears and the Spooky Old Tree is a board game based on the book of the same name. It was developed and released by Random House Happy Home Group in 1989.
Gameplay[]
As Brother, Sister, Lizzy, or Cousin Fred, players race to be the first to get their bear pawn to their respective finish sector before the others. Brother has a flashlight, Sister has a pole, Lizzy has some rope, and Cousin Fred has a key.
When the board game is set up according to the diagram, the players must then use the spinner to decide who goes first. Once the turn order has been decided, the players then take turns spinning and moving their bear pawn. If a red, yellow, or blue number two is spun, the player that spun the number must flip over one of the puzzle pieces and move their pawn two spaces.
There are spaces containing puzzle pieces that, if landed on, allows players to flip a puzzle piece over to turn it into a shortcut or a spooky side. In the former's case, it shows the cubs running away and for the latter's case, it shows scary animals such as crows. Depending on the picture shown as the player lands on the purple arrow, they can either use it as a shortcut or take the long way around.
If a player moves to a space that is already occupied by another bear pawn, they must move to the next open space. To win, players must spin the exact number of spaces needed to get to their bear pawn's goal.
